Laser Hair Removal Frequently Asked Questions:
Why is Laser the treatment of choice for hair removal?
Lasers remove hair for good, giving you a long-lasting, even permanent result. In only a few treatments (most Laser companies recommend six to eight treatments for desired results). However, the number of treatments you will need depends on various factors such as your hairs’ thickness, the area treated and your hairs’ growth cycle.
Laser hair removal has another advantage; in that you will not have to let the hair grow out a few days before treatments to get it to work as you do with other methods.
How long does a laser hair removal treatment take?
Several factors determine the length of time for a treatment. The size of the area treated factors into the time required, as does the amount of preparation and the thickness of one’s hair. During your consultation, adequate time will be planned for each area to be treated. As a rule, legs and backs may take an hour to an hour and a half, while an upper lip may require 8 to 10 minutes. Underarms can take as little as 20 minutes.
What areas can be treated with laser hair removal?
Laser hair removal can remove hair from any area of the body including the face, legs, arms, underarms, back and even the tips of ears. It can also treat sensitive areas like the areola (the pigmented skin surrounding the nipple) and the bikini area.
Is laser treatment safe?
Yes, laser hair removal effectively destroys the hair itself without harming the surrounding skin. You may be slightly red afterward, but that typically goes away in a matter of hours if not sooner.
How do I prepare for laser hair removal?
Before your first session it is important for you to avoid waxing for six weeks. The laser needs to be able to identify the hair follicle. During this time period, shaving is acceptable.
You MUST stay out of the sun and/or Tanning beds. Any tanning of the skin can result in pigmentation in the areas your laser.
On the day before your treatment, you should shave with a clean, new razor. By shaving, the laser will be able to locate the hair follicles.
When exactly should I shave before my laser treatment?
Shave within 24 hours of your laser appointment. Your laser technician will not be able to go over areas with hair that is above the skin. Even a rough stubble of hair can cause damage to the laser and will also increase your chance of getting burned as well as make the treatment hurt more.
Can I get laser hair removal when I’m pregnant?
It is not recommended.
